Our grandson Ben’s birthday was Friday and we had a party for him Saturday afternoon. Guests started arriving around 4:00. As they did, we cautioned them to be quiet because we had 4 deer hanging around in the woods outside our kitchen window. Our hope was the kids would arrive before they ran off. Rachel got to have this close encounter with a doe.
Of the 4 deer, three are does and one is a buck. One of the does is bigger than the rest and is probably the mother some of the others.
I normally decorate a cake for the birthday celebrity. We have been doing this since Lance and Wendy were little. Ben is too young to have much preference for what he would like on his cake but Cherise suggested he might like a lion. I chose the Lion King for the subject.
That picture of Rachel and the doe could win a prize somewhere! Ben is such a cutie pie. Does he still think his name is “no Ben” or has he settled down a little?
Rachel told me she thought the deer liked her!
Happy Birthday to our big 2 year old boy! All the photos are terrific, as is the cake. I wish we could have been there.
I think Wyatt and Ben and Rachel will have fun playing together this Christmas.

quiet long enough to see the deer?
Rachel and that deer must have looked at each other for at least 20 minutes. It was amazing. Ben enjoyed the birthday, although I still don’t think he realized it was all for him. Christmas should be fun and interesting this year. As always, Grandpa Butch did a stellar job on the cake decorating.
Can’t wait for Christmas this year.
